Meet at 10.30 at the Lowry Statue, next to the Knott End Slipway at the end of Bourne May Road. Grid Ref: SD346485. Parking is free in the adjacent Quail Holme Road Car Park, Knott End, FY6 0EA; what3words: ///siblings.uptown.calculate, where there are also toilets and a café.
Owen, author of the poetic Autumn Hunt Report in the Spring 2024 magazine, will guide us on this walk. He has titled the walk, ‘Numinous Wyre’ As well as the plants, expect to be entertained by poetry, local history and much more.
The first part of the walk will be on shingle and pebbles and could be slippery in parts. Please wear suitable footwear and use a stick if necessary. Carry packed lunch.
We will walk along the River Wyre to look at the estuarine plants, including Sea Wormwood Artemisia maritima, Common, Lax-flowered and Rock Sea-lavenders Limonium vulgare, L. humile and L. britannicum ssp. celticum, and will return on paths through grassland and the golf course.
