Saturday 16th August: Great Orme, Llandudno

Leader: Wendy McCarthy

Meet at 10:30 at the summit car park, Bishop’s Quarry Road, LL30 2QR. There is a charge for the car park. People may enjoy getting to the summit on the Great Orme Tramway or even walking up. The views will be wonderful.

The Great Orme is a limestone headland on the north coast of Wales, north-west of the town of Llandudno. The Great Orme is home to a number of special and rare plants such as Spiked Speedwell Veronica spicata, the rare Wild Cotoneaster Cotoneaster cambricus, Bloody Crane’s-bill Geranium sanguineum and Dark-red Helleborine Epipactis atrorubens to name but a few.

Sunday 17th August:  Llandudno Junction, North Wales

Leader: Delyth Williams

Meet at 10:30 at the car park at RSPB Conwy Nature Reserve, Llandudno Junction, Conwy, LL31 9XZ. The Reserve is easy to access just off the A55. There are toilets and a café. RSPB members can get in free otherwise entrance is £6.

It’s a huge site with plenty to see, mostly saltmarsh plants and some interesting Oraches Atriplex spp.

The Reserve has mixed scrub and grassland, dotted with temporary pools – loved by dragonflies and butterflies – and earlier in the year it is colourful with orchids. Along the edge of the estuary, there are mudflats and saltmarsh, with a backdrop of the Carneddau mountains beyond.

  • Transport and accommodation is the responsibility of the attendee. However, members who do not drive or who have difficulty in reaching the starting point should contact the leader, whose details you will be given when you book, to see if transport might be available.
  • Please arrive promptly for the meeting. If you have traffic problems let the leader know so they can advise on the route and how you can find the group.
  • When you arrive at the meeting, park considerately, act responsibly, bearing in mind the Countryside Code, and stay with the group. Always inform the leader if you must leave before the end of a meeting.
  • Packed lunches are usually required and need to be carried.
  • All those attending Wild Flower Society field meetings do so at their own risk.
