Woolwich Common and Charlton Cemetery

Meet at 10:30 at the Common at the junction of the A205 South Circular Road and Circular Way, SE18 4HR; Grid Ref: TQ431776.

Woolwich Common has Sickle Medick Medicago sativa ssp. falcata, Sand Spurrey Spergularia rubra and several other interesting plants. We will walk past The Queen Elizabeth Hospital where there is an area of sown and naturalised plants, at TQ425773, and continue to Charlton Cemetery – a ‘gentlemen’s cemetery’, which is good for local history as well as flora. The cemetery will no doubt be mown, but patches of unmown vegetation survive, and it is good for vegetative id. There are buses back to Woolwich from a stop nearby.
