The Wilts and Berks Canal Trust, Pewsham, Wiltshire
Fri 20 June 2025
Howard Hardy and Pauline Wilson
Meet at 10:00 at the Stinchcombe Hill Golf Club car park, GL11 6AQ. More details will be provided later. Facilities available in Club House.
This is a meeting with a difference. Stinchcombe Hill Trust is delighted to welcome members of the Wild Flower Society to help with recording the plants of Stinchcombe Hill.
Stinchcombe Hill lies within the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, now known as the Cotswolds Natural Landscape. The hill is noted for superb views from the Cotswold Way above steep slopes in all directions and supports a wide biodiversity of flora and wildlife.
Kathy Meakin, of Evidence Nature, completed a baseline survey of the whole SSSI grassland using a select list of Limestone Grassland Indicator Species. The help of Wild Flower Society members will be most welcome to expand on what was missing from the indicator list for a part of the SSSI.
The steep slopes of Stinchcombe Hill are not everyone’s cup of tea. For members preferring flatter aspects, priority habitat grassland still in need of surveying is adjacent to the clubhouse. Again, something for all levels of experience, the data collection and mapping elements will be fully supported by Evidence Nature and the fledgling Stinchcombe Hill botany group.
Members are asked to state their terrain preference on booking so we can organise accordingly
