Gait Barrows and Hawes Water NNR, Silverdale

Meet at 10:00 in the visitor car park at Gait Barrows, LA5 0JF. Entrance to car park: Grid Ref: SD47837763; what3words: ///divers.snaps.jetted. Voluntary car parking charges can be paid in advance, or on the day, using the RingGo app. Additional parking is available in road-side lay-bys. Carry packed lunch.

We will spend the morning looking at the plants of the limestone pavement and will visit the fen areas surrounding Hawes Water in the afternoon. Plants we should see include Angular Solomon’s-seal Polygonatum odoratum, Rigid Buckler-fern Dryopteris submontana, Northern Bedstraw Galium boreale, Bird’s-eye Primrose Primula farinosa and lots more.

The meeting is not recommended for anyone with mobility problems, as we will be spending time walking over the limestone pavement which can be extremely hazardous.
