Spring Hunt: Bungay, Suffolk
Sun 1 - Sun 1 March 2026
Sunday 28th June to 2nd July: Engadine Valley, Switzerland
Leader: Lyn Jones
Following on from our successful meeting last year we are repeating our visit in 2026, to allow more WFS members to visit the spectacular scenery of the Upper Engadine in SE Switzerland with its outstanding range of alpine flowers. We should see examples of many iconic alpine plants from gentians, saxifrages and primroses to snowbells and glacier crowfoot. We will enjoy walks to different areas in this charming area of Switzerland, from wooded valleys at about 1800m altitude to high alpine snow beds (up to 3000m, depending on weather conditions). Although a reasonable level of fitness is required, most days will make use of funiculars and cable cars to do much of the climbing. Walks will largely be downhill, though note that some paths are quite steep. For some of the excursions there will be options to take the cable-car or chairlift down for the less energetic. The actual routes for each day will be selected depending on weather conditions but are likely to include the Val Muragl, accessed by Muottas Muragl funicular, the lovely alpine meadows above St. Moritz and above Pontresina, and the high alpine snow beds on the Bernina Pass or below Piz Nair amidst the majestic peaks and glaciers of the Bernina massif. We will be based in the mountain resort of St. Moritz Bad.
