Steve Cross and Sheila Wynn
Saturday 6th June: Storth, near Arnside, Cumbria
Leaders: Julie Clarke and Sue Riley
Meet for a 10.30 start at Sandside, Storth, on the B5282 from Milnthorpe to Arnside, nearest postcode: LA7 7HP; Grid Ref: SD47398052; what3words: ///others.mixes.dimes. There is plenty of parking along the estuary. Nearest public toilets are in Arnside (payment by card). We will start by looking at the plants along the side of the estuary. To avoid walking along the road, we will then car share for the short drive to Guard Hill Local Nature Reserve, about 1km away. There is parking for a few cars at the reserve. We will spend some time in the nature reserve which has a good range of grassland and marsh plants including various sedges, Marsh Fern Thelypteris palustris and Marsh-orchids Dactylorhiza spp. and will then explore the surrounding lanes where we are likely to see Knotted Crane’s-bill Geranium nodosum, Narrow-leaved Bitter-cress Cardamine impatiens, ItalianToadflax Cymbalaria pallida and lots more.
