Meet at 10:30 in Bury St Edmunds, inside the Abbey Gardens, at the Iron Bridge over the River Lark.

The nearest town centre car park is Ram Meadow, Cotton Street, IP33 1XT. It is a 6-minute walk to the meeting place, via the entrance to the Gardens at the beginning of Eastgate Street, opposite The Fox Inn.

An early season meeting to enjoy the plants found on a large green open space that is part of the character of the historic market town of Bury St Edmunds. The site is part of the River Lark flood plain which consists of low-lying meadows with a network of drainage ditches. The Lark and the Linnet are Suffolk’s only chalk streams which are globally rare and precious habitats. Bury Water Meadows group was formed a few years ago as there was an urgent need to preserve as much of the floodplains and water meadows as possible. It will be interesting to note the species that are present in these medieval meadows and to hear from Jillian the plans going forward.
